Monrovia English Country Dance is a group with dance classes on the 2nd and 4th Friday of every month (except some major holiday weekends, which means NO CLASS ON DECEMBER 26, 2025!) We meet in Monrovia, California, to dance new and old English country dances. Beginners are always welcome! If you want to attend one of our classes, there’s no need to sign up ahead of time — just show up at any class, pay your $5 for that evening, and you’re in.
WHAT: We do English Country Dance, which is the sort of dancing you’ve seen in Jane Austen movies. It’s a fun, friendly, social form of dancing which isn’t too strenuous, and requires neither dance experience nor the grace of a ballet dancer. Each dance is taught and then called during the dance, to make it easier on beginners (and everyone else!). English Country Dance fans included George Washington, Jane Austen, Queen Elizabeth the first and the second, and a growing number of folks around the world.

Plus, every January, we teach the dances from the Jane Austen Evening! This is a lovely ball which is held every January in Pasadena, and we love to teach both newcomers and experienced folks the wonderful dances from it. Please join us!
WHEN: The 2nd and 4th Friday of every month (some major holiday weekends excepted), from 7:30 – 10 pm. If it’s your first time doing English Country Dancing, please plan to arrive by 7:15 if possible for a quick orientation.

WHERE: The Guildhall of St Luke’s Episcopal Church, 122 S California Avenue (at Foothill Blvd), Monrovia, CA 91016. Free parking in lot.

HOW MUCH: $5 per class (cash only, please).
DETAILS: No partner required, no costume required, no reservation required; we welcome beginners at every class. Please wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes.
CHILDREN: We welcome children who are old enough to follow the directions of a caller and remember some terms when explained, and are comfortable performing basic dance moves with strangers (for example, taking hands or hooking elbows). We find that most children can do these things at around age eight.
